Vacuum Seal

Food that needs to be refrigerated still needs to be refrigerated if you seal it with a vacuum sealing device.

I have an electric Tilia Food Saver and a manual Pump-N-Seal, but rarely use the latter (though after an earthquake or emergency where no electricity is available, it will come in handy).

After I’ve poured nuts, grain, and other dried goods into canning jars, I use my Tilia Food Saver jar sealer to vacuum seal the grain in the canning jars and Tilia Canisters. I’ve noticed that sometimes the lids came off the canning jars so easily the vacuum was gone, but realized when researching this article that it was my fault – I re-used canning lids (to save money).  So I’m going to stop doing that.

I've milled and baked with whole grains for many years, because whole grains are delicious, and white flour is missing the nutrition that protects you from cancer, stroke, heart disease, diabetes and many other diseases. Plus it's a good emergency food.
