Video: How To Make Custom Crackers From Your Favorite Ingredients

What’s the ultimate cracker?  The one that you make with your own favorite ingredients!

In this video, I’ll show you how to invent a cracker from your choice of whole grain, lentil, or nut flours, and favorite spices.   You can get these crackers into the oven in five minutes or less.  My book suggests other ingredients that you might include, such as grated cheese, that I don’t cover in this brief video.

Chapter 10 of my book, Crunch! Whole Grain Artisan Chips and Crackers, is titled “Be Your Own Iron Chef,” and details many additional ideas for what you might include in your own ultimate crackers.

The video includes the basic recipe below for how you can make your own custom crackers:

Recipe:   Crackers from Your Favorite Ingredients

  • ¼ cup whole grain, bean, nut, or lentil flour of your choice
  • ¼ cup of another whole grain, bean, nut, or lentil flour of your choice
  • ¼ cup Whole Grain Mix
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ to 1 tsp. total of one or several  spices
  • 1 tablespoon Super Seed Mix
  •  Egg (optional; if you add an egg, do so before you add the water)
  • About 3/4 cup water, which varies depending upon your chosen flours

About Alice

I've milled and baked with whole grains for many years, because whole grains are delicious, and white flour is missing the nutrition that protects you from cancer, stroke, heart disease, diabetes and many other diseases. Plus it's a good emergency food.

Alice, just wanted to thank you for “Crunch” and your book review of the book by Weiss on Depression survival. You are a genius! (takes one to know one-but you are obviously way smarter than I am) I bought Weiss’ book, read it and made changes that will help me survive the coming financial storm, hopefully. Best and most useful info, thanks to you! Wonderful summary and insightful comments! As you mention in Crunch, I have been looking for your book for about a decade or two. Tried one recipe and it worked perfectly. Fabulous book, so much useful info! I hope this email finds you physically and mentally well!

Thanks Peter, Weiss was good advice a while back, but as peak everything, Hubbert’s curve, and Liebig’s law advance closer in time, many think the best plan is to sink your money into a home in an area still under carrying capacity and other physical assets. You can rent the home out meanwhile for cash flow. Nicole Foss and Gail Tverberg best explain how the future may unfold and how to invest. I write about energy and resources and much more at energyskeptic, but not much on how to preserve wealth in the future, and survival further down the road, other experts are better in those areas.
